Our Story: 15 Years in the Panhandle

Before we were Town Square Diner, we were just a family with a passion for good food and a dream to feed the Texas Panhandle.

Our journey started about 15 years ago just down Route 66 in Vega, Texas, where we opened the doors to the Hickory Inn Cafe. For over a decade, we poured our hearts into serving up honest, scratch-made comfort food to locals and road-trippers alike.

As our restaurant family grew, so did our vision. Four years ago, we brought our love for classic diner culture right here into Amarillo with the opening of Shelby’s Diner. The incredible support from this community showed us that Amarillo has a massive appetite for great food and genuine, small-town hospitality.

That brings us to our newest chapter: Town Square Diner, which we proudly opened in 2025.

Town Square Diner is the culmination of everything we’ve learned over the last 15 years. We’ve taken the soul of the Hickory Inn and the bustling energy of Shelby’s, and channeled it all into this new space. We’re still flipping the same fluffy pancakes, pressing the same juicy burgers, and brewing the same hot coffee—just with a brand new view.

Whether you’ve been following our food since the Vega days or you’re just discovering us on the square, we are so incredibly grateful to have a seat at your table.

Come on in, pull up a chair, and let us feed you!
